    The ISSO's Electronic Mailing Lists

    The ISSO has three different electronic mailing lists, each with a distinctly different purpose. ISSO-NEWS-L is required all currently registered international students. The ISSO uses this list to send students important immigration-related updates and reminders, as well as our monthly electronic newsletter. Students are automatically added (or removed) from the list each academic year, and only ISSO list administrators may post announcements. If you are a currently registered international student and think you are not receiving list postings, please contact isso@cornell.edu to request that we add you.

    The other two lists, International-L and iPrograms-L, are described in greater details below.


    iPrograms-L

    Join this e-list if you are interested in receiving announcements specifically about ISSO trips, programs, and non-immigration services. This list has open membership (meaning anyone is welcome to join), but only ISSO list administrators may post announcements.

    How to Use iPrograms-L:

    To JOIN the list:

    1. Send an email to: iPrograms-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. In the body of the email type:
      join

    To LEAVE the list:

    1. Send an email to: iPrograms-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. In the body of the email type:
      leave

    Note: Command messages must be sent in plain text, that is, no formatting, font styles, or HTML code. You should send a command message from the e-mail address where you want to receive or stop receiving the e-list's messages. If you cannot send mail from that address, or if you have other problems leaving a list, contact the list's administrators.



    International-L

    This list has been established by the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) to facilitate communication and camaraderie within the international community at Cornell. Cornell's international community is comprised of international students and visiting academic staff (past, present & future,) their family members, and other members of the Cornell and Ithaca community who share an interest in international & cultural affairs.

    You may use this list to post announcements of upcoming events, find information, meet new friends, or discuss current events and issues of local or global concern. Anyone is welcome to join this list, and your opinions are welcome, but please be respectful of others. The ISSO reserves the right to remove members who post messages that are offensive, obscene, or personally attack a list member. Also keep in mind that replies to this list will go to all members of the list, so if you wish to respond privately to a message, please check your "TO" line before sending your reply.

    How to Use International-L:

    To JOIN the list:

    1. Send an email to: International-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. In the body of the email type:
      join

    To LEAVE the list:

    1. Send an email to: International-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. In the body of the email type:
      leave

    To SEND A MESSAGE to the list:

    To send a message to international-L, address your e-mail message to

    Digest Format:

    If you do not want to receive individual messages from International-L every time someone sends something to it, you may wish to receive your messages in digest format. There are two types of digest:

    digest
    receive a single daily digest with all the messages of the day. The digest will contain ALL the text from ALL the postings , that is, it is not just a summary.

    1. send an email to International-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. write in the body of the email:
      set digest

    mimedigest
    receive a single daily digest with all the messages of the day in MIME format. Each posting will be included as an attachment (so you may receive many many attachments).

    1. send an email to International-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. write in the body of the email:
      set mimedigest



    To temporarily SUSPEND RECEIVING messages:

    If you would like to stop receiving messages for a short period of time (during vacation, etc.) but wish to remain subscribed to the list:

    1. send an email to International-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. write in the body of the email:
      set nomail

    To resume mail delivery:

    1. send an email to International-L-request@cornell.edu
    2. write in the body of the email:
      set mail
      (or use one of the digest options)
