TN Visa Status - North American Free Trade Agreement
Description
This non-immigrant visa category will allow a Canadian citizen (but not landed immigrants) to enter the U.S. temporarily to engage in activities at a professional level. These activities have been defined as undertakings which require at least a baccalaureate (bachelor's) degree or appropriate credentials demonstrating status as a professional (see list of professional occupations).
A Canadian citizen entering in this category can apply for permission to stay for up to one year. No maximum limit on the number of extensions has been established. Dependents of a person holding TN status enter on the TD status and are not allowed to work.
Mexican citizens also qualify for the TN visa. Application procedures, however, are quite different than those for Canadian citizens. Contact the ISSO for more details.
A baccalaureate degree is the minimum requirement to qualify for TN status, unless otherwise specified.
