  • PREPARE Program: Information for Volunteers

    The PREPARE Volunteer Experience

    Who Can Volunteer?

    • Are you an international undergrad who would like to welcome new international undergrads to Cornell?
    • Are you an American undergrad who has had experience living in another culture and knows how it feels to dive into something so different?
    • Then use your experience to help welcome new international students to Cornell!

PREPARE is the International Undergraduate Pre-Orientation program, coordinated through the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO). It is a four-day intensive program, where participants and volunteers have the opportunity to meet one another and help each other acclimate to life at Cornell. Each day, there are workshops on topics such as academic success, practical living, health and safety presentations, and college visits. In addition, volunteers lead groups of students on campus tours, accompany them to the shopping mall, and socialize at events such as bowling, cultural performances, and more.

Who Participtes in PREPARE? Over 180 new students, plus 50 volunteers will participate in PREPARE.

Role of Volunteers: Volunteers are crucially important, and are expected to attend all events throughout the program. They may not be OCs in the university orientation, as conflicts of time and commitment often arise.

Timing: PREPARE will run from August 18-21, with a mandatory training session on August 16-17th.

When can Volunteers move in to on-campus housing?

Volunteers who have on-campus assignments for the fall will be allowed to move into their rooms beginning on August 15. Students who will be living off-campus must make their own arrangements with their landlord.

    How do I sign up?

Please complete the on-line volunteer application form by May 15, 2008. The ISSO will confirm receipt of your application and will contact you via email with more information.

Thank you and we look forward to working with you at PREPARE '08!
