    3:00-4:30 Welcome & Overview of Issues Specific to International Grads

    “Quiz Show” format, hosted by Brendan O’Brien, ISSO Director

      Topics to be covered:
    • Cornell History and Traditions
    • Activities at Cornell and in Ithaca
    • Sources of Support
    • US Immigration Law
    • US Income Tax
    • Health & Safety at Cornell

    4:30-4:45 Break (15 minutes)

    4:45-5:30 "Adjusting to Academic Culture in the US"

    A Cornell faculty member will make introductory remarks and then moderate a panel discussion. A panel of continuing Cornell graduate students will address such topics as: transitioning to a new academic culture, academic expectations and ethical concerns at Cornell, tips for developing a relationship with your faculty advisor, language barriers and other issues.

    5:30-7:00 International Student Organization Fair and Welcome Reception

    Enjoy light refreshments, compliments of the ISSO, and get to know some of your fellow new students while you browse the International Student Organization Fair and learn about the variety of student organizations and activities at Cornell.

    Note: This orientation program is not mandatory, but all new international graduate and professional students are strongly encouraged to attend. If you are unable to attend this program, you are invited to attend our general International Student Orientation program, to be held Tuesday, August 21 at 2:00 PM in the Willard Straight Hall Music Room.
